A dog’s love really isn’t unconditional. For that reason simply owning a dog may start your journey to a better place emotionally. With that comes healing and a restoration of your true self before the traumas you experienced during your military career.
The wonderful thing about owning a dog is that they depend on you as well as love and serve you. Having a reason or purpose to get out of bed every day is essential for us all. Gradually as you become a team in whatever training you do is when purpose transcends how we feel about our physical and mental health. in time, you can experience substantive relief from pain, fear, grief, anxiety, anger, depression and so on. A dog can be trained to provide you with care before, during, and after acute symptoms of PTSD and TBI’s in social settings, at home even when you are trying to sleep.
Training with a dog takes time, requires consistency and consideration for both members of your team. However, having a trained dog by your side day in and day out is worth the effort. Your dog isn’t the only answer to achieving a happier, healthier life but it can make the difference now and in the future. The bond and knowledge you acquire can be an important tool for living the best version of you as a civilian.
We are excited to be able to play a small part in your journey by providing financial support and other resources along the way. If you are a veteran living in Oklahoma and think you could benefit from having a service dog why not consider training together as a team. Perhaps we can help.
